Learn The Holy Rosary in Latin - The Glorious Mysteries

This is perhaps the simplest way to understand the Holy Rosary:

The Holy Rosary Consists of Three Mysteries:

  • The 3 Mysteries are:

    • the Joyful Mysteries,

    • the Sorrowful Mysteries,

    • and the Glorious Mysteries

  • Each Mystery Contains ... 5 distinct episodes in the lives of Jesus and Mary

  • For each of these 3 Mysteries we will pray:

    • 5 sets of “10 Ave Marias”* (These are called Decades; sets of 10)

* This equals 150 total Ave Maria prayers (the prayer, “Hail Mary” is more accurately named the Angelic Salutation, after the Archangel Gabriel’s greeting when announcing to Mary that she would be the Mother of God (St. Luke 1.26-28). For this reason the Rosary is also called Our Ladys Psalter, after the 150 chapters in the Book of Psalms, or the Psalter.)

The First Glorious Mystery: The Resurrection

I. Primum Mysterium Gloriosum - Resurrectio Domini nostri Iesus Christi  (The Resurrection of Christ)

(Sancte Matthaee 28:1-7)

Pater noster, Qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen Tuum;
adveniat regnum Tuum;
fiat voluntas Tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;
et ne nos inducas in tentationem; sed libera nos a malo.

Amen.

(Repetere decies: Repeat each “Ave Maria” 10 times):

The Second Glorious Mystry: the Ascension of Our Lord Jesus Christ

II. Secundum Mysterium Gloriosum - Ascensio Domini nostri Iesus Christi

(The Ascension of Christ)

(Actus 1.6-11)

Pater noster, Qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen Tuum;
adveniat regnum Tuum;
fiat voluntas Tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,

The Third Glorius Mystery: The Descent of the Holy Ghost

III. Tertium Mysterium Gloriosum - Spiritus Sanctus in Apostolos Descendens

(The Descent of the Holy Ghost)

(Actus 2.1-13)

Pater noster, Qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen Tuum;
adveniat regnum Tuum;
fiat voluntas Tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;

The Assumption of Mary into Heaven Body and Soul

IV. Quartum Mysterium Gloriosum: Assumptio Beatae Mariae Virginis

(The Assumption of Mary into Heaven)

Itaque consolamini invicem in verbis istis.” (1 Thess. 4.12-16)

Pater noster, Qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen Tuum;
adveniat regnum Tuum;
fiat voluntas Tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;
et ne nos inducas in tentationem; sed libera nos a malo.

Amen.

(Repetere decies: Repeat each “Ave Maria” 10 times):

The Coronation of Mary in Heaven: Queen of Angels and Apostles

Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae!
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exules filii Evae.
Ad te suspiramus,
gementes, et flentes, in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria!

Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genetrix,
Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.

Oremus:

Amen.

℟. Amen.
