The Mysteries of the Holy Rosary
in
Downloadable Audio Files
This is perhaps the simplest way
to understand the Holy Rosary:
The Holy
Rosary Consists of Three Mysteries:
-
The 3 Mysteries
are:
-
the
Joyful
Mysteries,
-
the
Sorrowful
Mysteries,
-
and the
Glorious
Mysteries
-
Each Mystery
Contains
... 5 distinct episodes in the lives of Jesus
and Mary
-
For
each of these
3
Mysteries
we will pray:
-
5 sets
of
“10 Ave
Marias”*
(These are called
Decades;
sets of 10)
*
This equals 150 total
Ave Maria prayers (the prayer, “Hail Mary” is more
accurately named the Angelic Salutation, after
the Archangel Gabriel’s greeting when announcing to
Mary that she would be the Mother of God (St. Luke 1.26-28).
For this reason the Rosary is also called Our Lady’s
Psalter, after the 150 chapters in the Book of Psalms,
or the Psalter.)

Each
of these five Mysteries
are recited — prayed, really — in Latin as our forefathers had
prayed the Rosary for over a thousand years. You can follow the audio
presentation in the text accompanying it below. Please remember
that each Mystery, as you listen to it, is being prayed — and
not merely recited. We invite you to enter into these prayers with us.
The audio files are not “professional recordings” ... they are prayers.
We humbly ask you to overlook what is imperfect within them. Our special
thanks to the cloistered Community of Poor Clare Colettine Nuns
in England for preparing the text for this presentation, for their loving
encouragement, and for their constant prayers through which alone this
project is possible.

Primum Mysterium Gaudiosum:
Annunciatio
(the Annunciation)
26
“In
mense autem sexto, missus est angelus Gabriel a Deo in civitatem Galilææ,
cui nomen Nazareth.
27
: benedicta tu in mulieribus. 29
in æternum, 33
et regni ejus non erit finis.”
(Sancte Luca 1.26-33)
Pater
noster, Qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen Tuum;
adveniat regnum Tuum;
fiat voluntas Tua,
sicut in caelo et in terra.
Panem nostrum quotidianum da nobis hodie;
et dimitte nobis debita nostra,
sicut et nos dimittimus debitoribus nostris;
et ne nos inducas in tentationem; sed libera nos a malo.
Amen.
(Repetere decies: Repeat each “Ave Maria” 10 times):
Ave Maria,
gratia plena,
Dominus tecum;
benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Iesus.
Sancta Maria, Mater Dei,
ora pro nobis peccatoribus,
nunc et in hora mortis nostrae. Amen.
Gloria Patri,
et Filio,
et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio,
et nunc,
et semper,
et in saecula saeculorum.
Amen.
O
Bone Iesu, libera nos a peccatis
nostris; libera nos ab ignibus gehennae; perduc
in paradisum omnes animas praesertim eas quae plus misericordia tua indigent!

Iuda: 40
Et intravit in domum Zachariæ, et salutavit Elisabeth.
41
benedictus fructus ventris tui.
43
in gaudio infans in utero meo.” (Sancte Luca 1.39-44)
Pater
noster, Qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen Tuum;

16
Et venerunt festinantes : et invenerunt Mariam, et Ioseph, et infantem
positum in præsepio. 17
Et omnes qui audierunt, mirati sunt: et de his quæ dicta erant a pastoribus
ad ipsos. 19
Maria autem conservabat omnia verba hæc, conferens in corde suo.
20

30
Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum.
31
Quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum:
32

V.
Quintum Mysterium Gaudiosum:
Inventio in Templo
(the Finding in
the Temple)
41
“Et
ibant parentes ejus per omnes annos in Ierusalem, in die solemni Paschæ.
42
secundum consuetudinem diei festi,
43
consummatisque diebus, cum redirent, remansit puer Iesus in Ierusalem,
et non cognoverunt parentes ejus.
44
45
Et non invenientes, regressi sunt in Ierusalem,
requirentes eum. 46
Et factum est, post triduum invenerunt illum in templo sedentem in medio
doctorum, audientem illos, et interrogantem eos.
47
Stupebant autem omnes qui eum audiebant,
super prudentia et responsis ejus.
48
quia in his quæ Patris mei sunt, oportet me esse?
50
mater ejus conservabat omnia verba hæc in corde suo.
52
Et Iesus proficiebat sapientia,
et ætate, et gratia apud Deum et homines.”
(Sancte
Luca 2.49-52)
Pater
noster, Qui es in caelis,
sanctificetur nomen Tuum;
adveniat regnum Tuum;

Salve,
Regina,
Mater misericordiae!
vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra, salve.
Ad te clamamus, exules filii Evae.
Ad te suspiramus,
gementes, et flentes, in hac lacrimarum valle.
Eia ergo, advocata nostra,
O clemens, O pia, O dulcis Virgo Maria!
Ora pro nobis, Sancta Dei Genetrix,
Ut digni efficiamur promissionibus Christi.
Oremus:
Gratiam tuam quaesumus, Domine,
mentibus nostris infunde, ut qui,
angelo nuntiante, Christi Filii tui
incarnationem cognovimus
per passionem eius et crucem,
ad resurrectionem gloriam perducamur,
per eundem Christum Dominum nostrum. Amen.

Readers’ Responses:
It is always a pleasure for the
Boston Catholic Journal to receive letters, especially from young men
and women. With gratitude we reprint the following letters:
Dear Senior
Editor,
Boston Catholic Journal
I am writing you this letter so that you may know that no
good deeds go unnoticed in the eyes of God. I have listened
to the audio files on your website and I want to tell you
that your whole team working at The Boston Catholic Journal
did an excellent job not only with the one-hundred and fifty
Psalms, but also with the Holy Rosary (it is especially
helpful with the Rosary that the reader is able to follow
along on the same page, and I do understand how there is
a link which one can go to in order to follow along with
the psalms as well).
As far
a sound quality goes, after listen to about twelve-fifteen
Psalms ranging from the first Psalm all the way to the last
one, the sound quality is not only consistent but at the
same time sharp and clear. The speaker does a good job of
speaking at a steady pace in order that the listener may
be able to follow along as well as reflect on that particular
Psalm.
In an
era where the classics and everything associated with it
is slowly fading away, it is refreshing to not only see,
but to hear what our fathers heard growing up and what their
father’s heard, back to the time of the Roman Republic.
In this
season of Lent, many people seem to get lost in its intended
purpose of preparing for Easter ...with worrying about getting
their ashes (solely for the purpose of just wearing them
in public so people can see they are a “good” Catholic),
or what they are going to give up for Lent—like their large
ice coffee everyday—when the truth of the matter is none
of that stuff (giving up coffee, chocolate, etc) is going
to bring you closer to God.
I personally
tend to look at Lent not so much of what you can “give up”
but more of what you can “give”: one can give more time
to God by going Church a couple days a week, or give more
time to praying in the morning as well as at night; you
can give your attention to people who are in need. Or as
pertaining to your website, you can give the time it takes
to listen to four Psalms a day and be done with all of them
just in time for Easter.
I do understand
the concept of self-discipline and giving up things that
you find enjoyable or pleasing but, I just believe that
God would find an increase prayer time and time of self
reflection more pleasing to him than giving up soda for
Lent (especially since the only reason you gave up soda
was that you wanted to lose ten pounds during Lent and it
has nothing to do with self-discipline).
Your website
has provided many people the opportunity to prepare and
cleanse themselves throughout the duration of Lenten season
and in essence bring them closer to Christ which is what
Lent is really all about.
I
hope you and your team of men at The Boston Catholic Journal
keep up the good work. For there is no greater gift than
to bring someone closer to Christ, especially since if you
take one step towards Christ…he takes two steps towards
you. So because of you many people are taking the step in
the right direction, towards God.
Thank
you again,
God Bless.

Editor, Boston Catholic Journal
Dear Mr.
Editor,
I have long since 'Bookmarked ' the Boston Catholic Journal
as I am so interested in the audio files that you offer
for downloads on site.
I always think that the layout of the Boston Journal is
so easy to navigate, and indeed the 'Free Disc" that you
sent to me some time ago has been much used and appreciated.
The voice files of the psalms have helped me greatly to
appreciate the beauty of Latin and they are read so prayerfully,
and in a way I can enter into, thank you for the hours of
devotion you must have put into the project.
But I am particularly interested in the wonderful presentation
of the Rosary in Latin, it is so prayerful, thank you so
much — especially the ' Luminous Mysteries ', many religious
sites on the net have the Regular mysteries but far fewer
the Mysteries of Light.
The reader of the Rosary has such a good voice, well metered,
and so prayerful, I can think of many sick people who would
derive great comfort to pray along with these audio's, so
thank you for all your time.
Please extend my gratitude to your staff, I see your site
is dedicated to Mary, well she has certainly blessed the
work of your hands and lips.
Thank you.
God bless you
